First edition, 4to., fine woodcut initials, engraved architectural title page, numerous wood engravings in the text of coins, grave markers, medals, ancient Roman chariot races, and an illustration of a body being prepared for burial, the dedication to Charles Emmanuel, Duke of Savoy, printed in civilité type, mottled calf, spine decorated gilt in compartments, edges rubbed, wear at head and tail of spine, water staining to the title page and first few signatures and to some signatures elsewhere in the book, early ownership inscription on the title page scored out and lower outer corner cut away
