Between 1982-87 Barns-Graham made a group of works she described (and often titled) as ‘collages’. Although they do all employ stuck down paper or card, they are perhaps better described as painted reliefs. Beginning very small - built up from layers of the tiny circles of paper made by a hole-punch, as the series developed the woks became larger, more ambitious and often associated with specific places or landscapes, as with ‘Newlyn 2’.
