Note:
Tulips had long been a favourite decorative motif for Mackintosh, appearing in his designs for furniture and more frequently in his textile designs produced in London after 1915. In this composition Mackintosh isolates the stems and blooms against the white of the paper, thus emphasising their structure and sinuous curves.
