each photograph c.15 x 10cm, showing a wide range of subjects including: people (presumably family members), buildings in New York, trains in Canada, skiing, animals, snowy scenes and others
Provenance: Purchased from the estate of Samuel Gottscho
Note: Samuel Gottscho, 1875-1971, was 50 years old before he became a full-time landscape, nature and architectural photographer. It is rumoured that during the Great Depression, Gottscho drove over 5000 miles through the streets of New York, taking panorama and skyline images. Today, Gottscho's architectural work comprises some of his best-known pieces.
The collection of images included here comprises snapshots and studies, more than grand commissioned pieces. However, the 434 photographs do show Gottscho developing and practising as an artist.
