Biography: James Morrison was born in Glasgow in 1932 and studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1950-54. He was visiting artist at Hospitalfield House in Arbroath for a year in 1963 and lived in Catterline before moving to Montrose in 1965.
Morrison taught at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee and was senior lecturer there from 1979-87 when he left to paint full time. He has travelled the world to paint, visiting places such as Greece, France, Canada, the High Arctic and Botswana. Known for his landscape paintings, with his constant source of inspiration comes from the landscape around his home in in Montrose and Assynt in West Sutherland.
Morrison is an Academician of the Royal Scottish Academy and a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour. His work is held by numerous public and private collections throughout the world, including the Royal Collection.
