Footnote
The firm of Fontana was founded inside the Galerie Beaujolais in the Palais Royal by Thomas Fontana (1813-1861). Various family members were involved with the firm after Thomas' death, including his nephew Joseph Fontana (1840-1897). In 1871 Charles Fontana, son of Thomas, took over the business and it became known as Ch. Fontana et Cie. They exhibited at the Paris exhibition in 1900. The Fontana archives now belong to French fine jewellers Chaumet.
