Note: Between 1877 and 1905, Doat worked in Sevres both at the Manufacture Nationale de Sevres and privately from his own studio. The porcelain works from his studio reflect his interest in Japonisme with organic forms inspired by nature such as the gourd, which was popular in France from the 1890s. Doat also developed his own high-fired porcelain techniques which he wrote about in his 1905 text Grand Feu Ceramics, which helped disseminate his discovery and how to produce works in the style.
