Description
Representation of the body of the late Admiral Lord Nelson laying in state in the Painted Hall at Greenwich Hospital. London: Stampa & Son, March 14, 1806. Framed, large size.
Note: Le Quesne 22 Nelson’s body lay in state on 5,6 & 7 January when more than 30,000 people passed through to view the coffin. From details given in Duncan’s Life (lot *****), it is possible to state that the glass picture records the scene on the third day and gives a remarkably accurate representation of the scene.
