Log Book 1833", a very interesting and candid diary discussing family, politics, friends, "Dundonald is at this time very busy at Glasgow perfecting his Steam-engine, and making experiments on the expansion of gas with the ultimate view of applying it in the room of steam", conversations with the King at St. James's Palace", "Lord Brougham is certainly possessed of a very winning manner and inspite of a monstrous nose which is always twitching about as if to start from his face, has a delightful expression of Countenance, a smile playing upon his lips and his eyes beaming with kindness, intelligence and good humour", discusses his dinner with their Majesties, Palace politics, political votes in the House of Commons and Lords, journey to Brighton 'with my excellent friend Lord Byron', visit to the Brighton Pavilion 'I have often wondered how the King got through his income, but on seeing at 11 o'clock in the day 17 joints roasting on 5 spits all at the same moment, the difficulty was solved. All these went to feed the Servants, for of course His Majesty's dinner came afterwards', observations on electricity, steam-engines, construction or roads and bridges in Scotland, Turnpike acts, &c. bound in contemporary marbled wrappers
