Note: An uncommon poetry work by Fouad Shakir (1905-73), a Saudi poet and journalist; the photographs include the two kings Ibn Saud and Farouk during Ibn Saud's visit to Egypt. Shakir was born at Mecca and was one of the first Saudi students sent to Egypt in 1929 to further their studies; he studied Arabic literature and in 1945 was placed in charge of royal protocol at Ibn Saud's palace. He was the editor of several Saudi newspapers including Sawt al Hijaz (the Voice of Hijaz) and Um al Qura. In 1966 he established a newspaper called Akhbar al Alam al Islami (News of Islamic World). He was a contributor to several Egyptian newspapers and published several books of poems.
