Biography:
Alberto Giacometti was one of the most important sculptors of the twentieth century. He was greatly influenced by Cubism and Surrealism, as well as philosophical questions about the human condition. After 1935, he discarded his Surrealist influences to further explore figuration. Sculpture was his primary mode of working, and he also wrote, both publically in periodicals and exhibition catalogues, and privately, in notebooks and diaries. Painting was a small section of his artistic output, but he did work through his visual ideas in printmaking.
