Biography:
Agnes Martin was an American painter who was born in Canada in 1912 and became a US citizen in 1940.
Martin is known for her square canvasses, covered with delicate grids or repeated stripes, and muted colour palettes. Her work and reclusive lifestyle have intrigued and inspired painters, photographers, and writers worldwide.
A pioneer of abstract painting, Martin regarded her works as studies in the pursuit of perfection.
