the deep rounded sides of the cup supported on a gently tapered foot and raised to an everted rim, the exterior inscribed in cursive script within two bands with 'Bai Nian Chang Ci Zui San Wan Liu Qian Chang' (In life's possible hundred years; one should get oneself drunk in total of thirty-six thousand times)
Provenance: Private Scottish collection, has been collecting Asian ceramics for 25 years; acquired from Peter Wain, Shropshire on 16 June 2000, with an original handwritten receipt which states the piece dates to Yuan Dynasty (1260-1368 AD)
