unmarked, the tapered box with reeded rim and twin hinged covers, with flush hinge with engraved decoration, the covers engraved 'Alexander McGrouder' and 'Fear God and Honour thee King, Be not given to Changes', the base of the box engraved 'Newgate 17 July 1717'

Family tradition dictates that this box was commissioned by Alexander McGrouder while in prison in 1717 after his involvement in the '15, further it has been suggested the box was altered from the base of a silver drinking flask.
