Note: This poem was written by Muriel Spark (then Camberg) at the age of 15, as part of a competition to commemorate the centenary of the death of Sir Walter Scott. Muriel won the competition, with the trophy presented by the Heather Club, and the poem was subsequently printed and sold for one penny per sheet, the proceeds of the sale going towards the Children's Shelter on Edinburgh's High Street. A copy of a press photograph showing Muriel being crowned 'the Queen of Poetry' at school accompanies the poem.
