Note: Alexander Rose (1779-1813) was known as 'a handsome and dashing officer,' with a penchant for extravagant spending. He was the fourth son of William Rose of Montcoffer House, Banff (1740-1807) and Mary Robinson (1757-1838), and was killed during the storming of San Sebastian. The portait had remained within the family.
