Lyon & Turnbull were delighted to be involved with the Friends of the Royal Scottish Academy’s Art Auction on Thursday 17th June 2010 at the Royal Scottish Academy on the Mound, Edinburgh.
When Dr William Baillie CBE retired from the Presidency of the RSA in 2003, five fellow Academicians (Dr Barbara Rae CBE RA, David Evans, Michael Snowden, Stuart Duffin and Professor Andrew Merrylees) contributed to a portrait in the form of a triptych. It commemorates Bill’s Presidency and reflects not only the Academy’s different disciplines but also Bill’s lifetime association with India.
To help raise funds for its future conservation, Friends and their guests had the opportunity to bid for works donated by Bill and by the original contributors to the portrait, as they went under the expert hammer of Paul Roberts, Vice Chairman of Lyon & Turnbull, in the Upper Galleries of the Royal Scottish Academy. The evening also featured live jazz and a wine tasting by Inverarity One to One, who are the wine sponsors for the Friends’ three large summer events.
The Friends were delighted with the result, having raised enough money to pay for the conservation work. The top lot of the evening was Barbara Rae's Laken Strand, which made £1,400.
