Books, Manuscripts & Photographs

Lyon & Turnbull’s Department of Rare Books, Manuscripts, Maps and Photographs has gone from strength to strength in recent years. The department has two dedicated members of staff and hosts three sales a year.

Highlights of the past few years have included the sumptuous collection of travel volumes from the library of the Northern Lighthouse Board, a very large collection of antiquarian medical and travel books from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, a beautiful first edition copy of Robert Burns' Poems, Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect, published in Kilmarnock 1786 and an impressive selection of Jacobite and natural history literature from the library at Stobhall, Perthshire.

It is our aim to continue this success, making Lyon & Turnbull the largest regional auctioneers of books, maps and manuscripts in the U.K.
