Silver & Objects of Vertu

Lyon & Turnbull’s Silver and Coin Department holds three sales a year; in spring, summer and just before Christmas, including a variety of antique and modern silver as well as plated, foreign and Scottish provincial wares. We also have an annual sale devoted to Scottish Silver.

The department has had a number of significant collections of silver for sale in recent years, including The Murray Collection, totalling £190,000. This success lead to the consignment of a Private Collection of Scottish silver which made £135,000 and included the Tain Tot Cup at £22,000, a world record price. Recently, four items surplus to the Maxwell MacDonald family realised £53,000. Coins and medals are an area of expansion for us and record prices were set last year for early 19th century coin proof sets. We also continue to do well with Russian enamel items.
